With Original Old Cruise Labels

This is an interesting old vintage Norris Luggage small suitcase or travel case. It has been used in the past - and you can see evidence of this with the application of paper labels from cruise journeys and airline journeys on the sides of the case, as photographed. These have not been applied later - but are original to the case and part of its history. They are for Swans Hellenic Cruise and East African Airways: EAA.

In the 1950s Swan's Tours, a British travel agency run by a father and son, pioneered the concept of "cultural cruising".

HISTORY OF THE TRAVEL LABELS: Swan's Tours was asked to organize a tour for the Hellenic Society to visit ancient Greece with archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler as a guest lecturer. The tour was so successful that more cruises were developed, featuring guest lecturers like academics, writers, and clergymen. Swan's Tours focused on touring classical sites in the Aegean Sea, the coasts and islands of modern Greece and Turkey, and other ancient sites in north Africa and the eastern Mediterranean.

The East African Airways Corporation was an airline jointly run by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It was set up on 1 January 1946, starting operations the same year. The airline was headquartered in the Sadler House in Nairobi, Kenya. The corporation was dissolved in 1977 amid deteriorated relations among the three countries.

The leather on the case is nice and thick - and it closes with an all around heavy-duty steel zip. It takes a bit of a firm pull to open and close the case. The case has a lock - but sadly no key.

The interior is lined with a bright cerise pink fabric. It is clean but the material has a couple of stains on the surface of it (like old water marks) - this is commensurate with age and use. The interior is line with lots of little pockets to keep travel items and accessories separated from the the main packing section.

I love the big double hoop chunky carrying handle. It was certainly an expensive case when it was first retailed - as cruising and air flights to Africa were out of the reach of most people. It has been well made.

I have listed this to take into account the faint water stain marks to the internal pink lining.

Dimensions: to top of the handle to the base of the bag is 16 inches (40.5 cm). The main body is 14 inches square (36 cm). The depth is 4 3/4 inches. Unpacked it is 1.6 kg in weight.

It is a fabulous old travel or weekend bag - and would also make a fabulous prop for a vintage film or stage play.

I will have to send to you with Royal Mail Medium Size Parcel in a sturdy box to keep safe in transit to you.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/vintage-1950s-thick-black-leather-norris-luggage-small-travelling-case-with-original-old-cruise-labels-858.webp?v=1781480277
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/vintage-1950s-thick-black-leather-norris-luggage-small-leather-case-with-travel-lables
