This is a more unusual piece of vintage 1950s German ceramics.
It is a free-standing figure of a glamourous lady's head - she is modelled in the typical Cortendorf brown matte finish on her face and hands,. She wears a rippling white glossy headscarf with a large bow at the neck. The scarf is decorated with red and lilac polka dots or spots.
This is a more unusual piece of West German ceramics - as Cortendorf figurative heads are more usually confined to being designed as wall masks or hangings. This model is designed to stand on a shelf or display case.
My lovely lady measures 6 inches in height - at the widest, she is 4 1/2 inches. The depth of the figurine is 4 inches.
The is marked Western Germany on the base. She is in good condition - there is no rubbing of the brown glaze and all her fingers are present with no damage. There is a little rubbing to the glaze on the base where it rests on your table - commensurate with age and being picked up and down over 70 years.
It is a very rare model and a perfect example of European Mid-Century Figurative ceramics.
The figurine will be posted in the UK with Royal Mail Small Parcel Recorded Post. This will cost £4.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
