The Ortak company was originally founded in the late sixties by Malcolm Gray in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. The company grew steadily to become of the UK's leading manufacturers and designers of fine silver and gold jewellery.
This is a lovely vintage brooch with a very classic design.
It is oval in form with applied delicate decorative elements to each side and also top and bottom.
The Scottish agate is a Blue Lace Agate - and it is in excellent condition.
It has a safety ring clasp on the back.
It is also hallmarked on the back - but this is so tiny that I have trouble in getting the date. But it is most definitely hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay office and designed for Ortak by Gray. It comes in its original blue flock coloured box. The box is hinged and also in pretty fair vintage condition.
Dimensions: 4 cm wide - and with a height of 3.5 cm. The agate measures: 2.5 x 2 cm.
Always fine pieces of jewellery and much sought after.
