vintage-luckenbooth-brooch-edinburgh-hallmark-1
SCOTTISH SILVER. Antique VICTORIAN Silver and Blue Enamel LUCKENBOOTH Brooch

This is a sweet antique Scottish silver brooch. It has little highlights of blue enamel as part of the design.

It is called a Luckenbooth brooch. A Luckenbooth brooch is a Scottish heart-shaped brooch. These often have a crown above one heart or two intertwined hearts (as is this one). They are typically made of silver and some may be engraved or set with stones.

The Luckenbooth brooch is a traditional Scottish love token and was often given as a betrothal or wedding brooch. One legend of the Luckenbooth brooch is that it was a symbol of love and devotion given by Mary Queen of Scots to Lord Darnley.

These brooches have a continued historic interest - and are still popular in Scotland until more contemporary times.

This one is an antique silver one - it has no hallmark - but a lot of antique Scottish silver is often without marks, as that is not an issue. These brooches were very popular in the Victorian era. Queen Victoria had a Royal residence at Balmoral Castle and this sparked a great interest in all things Scottish.

It would look good on a sash as a pin - or as a feature piece on a black cashmere sweater.

It measures: height is 4 cm. At its widest, it is 3 cm.

It has a traditional old C- safety ring closure on the back - and a nice sharp pin. There is also a little safety ring that you might add a fine chain to for added security when you are wearing this.

Good antique condition with no damages. I suspect that it is late Victorian or Edwardian in date.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/scottish-silver-antique-victorian-and-blue-enamel-luckenbooth-brooch-jewellery-149.webp?v=1781476676
