This is a lovely vintage collectable necklace or chest ornament from the Nagaland region.
It dates to the mid-20th century.
This necklace consists of five conjoined heavy cast brass heads with two full figures at each end (more unusual to find standing figures on these pieces). It has two original vegetable-dyed red thick cotton tassels and handing cords on the top of the outer two heads.
The necklace relates to the ancient Naga practice of head-taking and warfare. Of course, this tradition is no longer in practice and these amulets are mainly decorative for ceremonial events.
This is a lovely item with fine detail in the casting.
Dimensions: Overall width is 9 inches (23 cm). Height of each head is 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) and the height of the figures is 3 1/4 inches (8.5 cm)
