This is a beautiful piece of vintage Scottish silver - which was made at the Shetland Silver Company in the Shetland Isles.
It is marked: SHETLAND on the back - and the letters SS. It also has an Edinburgh hallmark - can't quite be certain of the tiny date letter - so have photographed this for your inspection - the date is late 20th century. Not later.
It is a stunning Nordic design showing three Norns in the form of swans. In Viking mythology, Nornes are female fate goddesses that transform themselves into swans for ease of travel.
On this pendant, the uppermost swan with its outstretched wings is Verdandi - who symbolizes the Present. The swan looking up to the future is Skuld and the one looking down is Urd, who symbolizes the Past.
This lovely pendant is the largest one in this range - and is 4.7 cm in diameter. The chain is a later replacement on and it is also silver - it is a good quality chain - and is also a good weight with nice strength to it.
The chain length is 17 3/4 inches - is a nice longer length - it has a ring catch - and it is marked 925.
My lovely pendant is in excellent vintage condition.
It will be sent to you in a simple lack flock gift box, as photographed.
