This is a fine large Parian Bust of the celebrated Scottish author, Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832).
Scott was one of the most celebrated author's of the mid 19th century - and his novels such as Ivanhoe and Rob Roy were certainly very popular with the Victorian reader.
It is a nice antique example made in the mid 19th to late 19th century.
It was modelled after the celebrated marble sculpture bust by Sir Francis Chantrey.
It is made in Parian - to resemble the marble original. Sadly, there is no maker's markings on this example.
The bust of Scott has a plaid shawl around his shoulders - and he is shown gazing three-quarters on.
The socle is an integral part of the figurine.
A nice display size - being some 9 inches in height.
It is in excellent antique condition - nice and gleaming white, no chips or cracks.
