
This fine quality cabinet plate was made at Josiah Wedgwood's Barlaston Pottery near Stoke in Staffordshire.
It is from a collection of plates specially commissioned by the Archbishop of Boston. They feature images from Giovanni Battista Piranesi's celebrated 18th Century etchings - the Vedute di Roma.
This plate shows St John Lateran.
I have a few of these plates still for sale - they each measure 10 1/2 inches in diameter.

The ceramic Piranesi plates which were commissioned by The Most Reverend Richard Cushing Archbishop of Boston.
Finally, there's a Standard Wedgwood of Etruria and Barlaston Mark together with the Mark of "Jones McDuffee & Stratton Co" of Boston who distributed the Plates.
Great display items or for formal dining events. All in very good vintage condition, perhaps a little crazing to the glaze on the back - this seems to be a common occurrence on these plates for some reason.
