This is a fabulous original print made by the celebrated printmaker, William Nicholson.
It was published in the Artists Engraver and is an original woodcut print with touches of colour. This impression dates to 1904.
The image measures 20 x 22.3cm.
There is another 1904 impression in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, as well as a number of prestigious international print collections.
William Nicholson produced a series of books in a similar format and spirit to this one, including An Alphabet (1898), Twelve Portraits (First & Second Series, 1899-1902), and London Types (1898).
The sheet is nice and clean with no spotting and is in good antique condition. It is newly re-framed with a good quality acid-free window mount, green border, and a simple black frame, and all ready to hang on your wall. The price takes into consideration the new frame and window mount.
The woodcut is printed on a good quality laid paper and you can clearly see the chain lines on the sheet. I have photographed these in close-up for your inspection. The sheet has been trimmed down to the image border and inset in an olive green border picking out the shades appearing in the image.
William Nicholson is a much sought-after Victorian artist and is perhaps best known for his stylish woodcut illustrations. He also was famed for designing stage sets for J.M. Barrie's play: Peter Pan.
