ABOUT US

Iconic Edinburgh Online

Iconic Edinburgh offers an interesting range of quirky, and often, unique design items from the 19th and 20th centuries.

From 2005 right up until January 2019, we had been trading at our anchor shop in the heart of Edinburgh’s historical Old Town.

Our old "bricks and mortar" shop in the Grassmarket is now closed – but we are very happy with our NEW online identity and store at ICONIC EDINBURGH.  Recently, we have decided to concentrate more on our National and International sales – and to develop & expand our fantastic online store.

Please check us out and, of course, LIKE our pages on social media - and you can keep up-to-date with all our activities and new stock - and even chat with us!  We regularly update our Facebook and Instagram pages. All our social media icon links are at the foot of each page - just click on them - it's that easy!

Iconic Edinburgh is certainly a special treasure trove of unusual and often hard to find designs: featuring everything from antique Scottish souvenirs, funky lighting to mid-century ceramics & vintage toys and games.

We look forward over 2020 and beyond to developing our selection of fine vintage costume jewellery; all quality pieces & many items available at pocket money prices.

Iconic Edinburgh has a fine online gallery of museum-quality artworks for sale - we concentrate on quality works by 19th and 20th Century artists - with special emphasis on listed Scottish artists. Our selections have been made based on decades of experience working with prestigious museum collections.

Valerie (Iconic Edinburgh)

 Curator and Online Co-ordinator

I had been employed as Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Galleries of Scotland for over 20 years from the early 1990's. I took early retirement from the Galleries to develop my vintage business ventures on a more full-time basis. I am responsible for researching all the items for sale in our online shop and taking orders forward for you.

I have a long-standing interest and experience in the care and collection of works on paper. My area of expertise is in Scottish Art.

During my time working in the National Gallery of Scotland, I was responsible for a number of exhibitions  - including shows on D.Y. Cameron, Alexander Nasmyth, The Glasgow Boys, William McTaggart, George Bain (in liason with Groam House Museum), Scottish Landscapes (shown at the Feigen Gallery, New York and the Fleming Collection, London).

I also worked with Sir Timothy Clifford on a touring show and catalogue “Designs of Desire” which looked at the history of  architectural drawings and Ornament Prints (shown at the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, The National Gallery of Scotland, Canada House, London and Temple Newsam House, Leeds).

I have been responsible for the care, display & documentation of a collection of over 30,000 works on paper in the Gallery. I also have many years of experience working with a number of national & international museums and galleries; as well as the acquisition of works for the Scottish National Collection.
