This is a rare and highly collectable original pencil-signed lithograph by the famous Scottish artist, Anne Redpath (1895 - 1965).
Anne Redpath studied at Edinburgh College of Art, where she won a travelling scholarship, enabling her to travel throughout Europe. In 1924, she moved to the south of France where she stayed for many years, only returning to Hawick, in her native Scotland in the mid-1930s.
She was elected an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1947 and was the first woman to be elected as a full member in 1952.
She was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Society of Scottish Artists, the Royal Glasgow Institute and, from 1946 at the Royal Academy in London. In 1960 she was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy having already been awarded the OBE in 1955. In the same year, she was awarded an honorary Doctorate from Edinburgh University.
Redpath had considerable commercial success in her lifetime - enjoying a fruitful and consistent relationship with Aitken & Dott in Edinburgh and latterly with Reid & Lefevre in London.
Since her death in 1965, her reputation has been further enhanced with retrospective and centenary exhibitions and she is now firmly established as one of the most celebrated figures in 20th Century Scottish Painting.
This fine lithograph by Repath is entitled "Windsor Flowers". It is signed in pencil below and with the edition number 40/75, and has the publisher's blind stamp - as photographed.
It is a nice size for a domestic interior. The frame measures 42 x 58.5 cm and the image is 27.5 x 45 cm.
