This is a very rare survivor and you certainly will not find another one.
Not only is it an attractive artwork in its own right, but it is also an interesting historical document.
This is a printed chromo-lithograph poster (not photographically produced but printed with screens).
The poster was printed by Stafford & Co in Nottingham (lots of old pantomime and theatrical posters were printed here in the early 20th century).
The poster was made to advertise the Fifth Annual Athletic Meeting - which was held at Powderhall Grounds in Edinburgh on Saturday 19th June in 1926 at 3 pm.
The stars of the event were the Edinburgh Southern Harriers.
There was sprinting, jumping, cycle racing, distance running, football fives, and a special Ladies' Sprint Race (confined to members of the Edinburgh Women's Athletic Club). Oh! and a five-a-side football tournament.
It was a shilling to get into the grounds and sixpence for children - if you wanted to watch all the events from the stands - then you would have to pay an extra sixpence.
The poster shows to the right: three tall figures in running whites finishing a sprint and breaking through the finishing tape - there are some cycling images to the top left. Below are more racing cyclists.
It is a fantastic old poster - and just amazing that this sheet of paper survives yet the Powderhall Stadium in Edinburgh has long been demolished and is now home to a business park.
The Edinburgh Southern Harriers (whose most famous member was possibly Alan Wells) also no longer exists either - having merged in 1996 to form the City of Edinburgh Athletic Club.
So this is a very special historical record.
The poster is printed on rather thin lower-grade paper - as the poster was never designed to be kept but just posted up in local shops or at Powderhall Grounds - and then torn down after the event. So a bit of a miracle it has survived.
It is in pretty good condition given that it is 94 years old - there are some creases to the sheet (acceptable due to the age and nature of the poster) - but no nasty tears or fading to the colours. The sheet has not been glued down onto any backing board.
It is beautifully presented as I had to have it all framed and glazed by a professional framer a few months ago - it has a fresh cream window mount and simple black frame, as photographed. All ready to hang straight on your wall.
