This is a very collectable piece of British Art Pottery.

It was made by Upchurch - and has an incised Upchurch signature on the base, which you can just see under the dappled treacle glaze. It is one of four fine pieces of Upchurch currently in my online store. Two in grey shades and two in these harder-to-find pink tones.

The pottery was established in 1909 in Kent by the Wakely brothers. The most significant name associated with Upchurch Pottery is Edward Barker who established himself within the company before officially purchasing it in 1953.

Edward passed away in 1955 but his older son William carried on the business until 1963 when sadly Upchurch Pottery ceased.

This vase is a lovely example with no damage.

It is a most attractive colour with subtle rose-pink blush shades, with running grey glazes. This vase is a nice large globular shape, as photographed. I have taken a lot of images for your inspection turning the vase around for these so you can see all the subtle variations all around on the thick glaze.

A nice thick - Ruskin-type glaze with a couple of in-creation ridge dimples in the glaze - as in the manufacture and showing that the glaze has been all hand-applied in the pottery studio. You can also see ridges in the clay where it has been hand-turned on a wheel.

A very simple and stylish piece of Upchurch and a more unusual shape - and it is certainly a large one.

Unpacked the weight is just over 1.6 kg

It is a larger size being some 7 1/2 inches in height and with a diameter at the widest point of about 7 1/2 inches. The aperture at the top is 4 3/4 inches. The base is the same size.

It is a heavy piece - and this is reflected in my postage quote.

POSTING TO UK ADDRESSES ONLY. Postage will be £10 and this is for a good quality postal service with Parcelforce48.

The vase will be very carefully packed and I will keep you informed of all stages of progress with your order. Dispatch notification will be sent and the tracking number.
