This is a lovely large piece of 1960s Hornsea Pottery.
It takes the form of a canister for storing flour. It is lettered on the front, as photographed. It has its original wooden lid - and rubber seal to keep your contents fresh.

The pattern has been influenced by old Rococo c-scroll motifs - and jazzed by by the designers John Clappison and Gordon Hellewell for Hornsea. The repeat pattern of fancy scrolls printed in black on a white body is very effective - and rather Pop Art or Carnaby Street in feel. These pieces were made between 1965 and 1972. This abstract pattern is very popular today.
It is hard to find large Flour jars in this pattern. It measures: 8 inches in height - and has a diameter at the widest of just over 6 inches. Unpacked it is 1.1 kg.
It is marked: Hornsea / England on the base. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or staining.
