I am starting to appreciate Aviemore Pottery more and more and will definitely to looking to acquire more pieces of it.
This plate or shallow dish was made in Scotland in the 1960s and the design looks almost Scandinavian in style
It is marked on the back: Aviemore Pottery / Scotland.
It is a nice large size for a piece of Aviemore - with a diameter of 10 inches. There is a height from table to rim of 1 3/4 inches. It has a good bit of weight to it - coming in at 860 grams (unpacked).
It is in excellent condition with no damage. It is a more complex design with its wax resists and raised bubbling lava glazes - this is reflected in the asking price for this lovely platter.
HISTORY: Aviemore Potteries began life in the 1950s at Castle Wynd Studios in Edinburgh. The business soon began to grow and result in moves to bigger and better premises - first to Gifford in East Lothian in 1954, and then to Aviemore in 1964. Aviemore Pottery was best known for its use of wax resists, muted colours reminiscent of the Scottish landscape - and painterly abstract patterns. All these techniques can be seen in my large dish. The pottery closed in 1974 when it became Highland China (Scotland) Ltd.
