This is an original signed 1923 wood engraving by Gwen Raverat (1885-1957); showing a Barber's Shop in Vence, a small town near Nice, in the south of France.

Gwen Raverat's wood engravings made in Vence are perhaps among her loveliest; unfortunately, the Provence climate played havoc with the woodblocks, so these exquisite works can never again be printed directly from the block.

Given that no further prints can come from her original woodblocks - this print is a rather rarer one; especially as it is also inscribed with the title (in French) and signed in pencil, below

Image size: 7.6 x 10 cm

Gwen Darwin was born in Cambridge, England in 1885. She was part of the influential Darwin-Wedgwood family & granddaughter of the naturalist Charles Darwin.

One of the first women to go to art college in England: she went to the Slade in 1908. She was one of the founding members of the Society of Wood Engravers and was instrumental in the 20th-century revival of the medium.

My print is in excellent condition - and comes with a fresh new mount and is framed in a plain & simple black frame all ready to hang straight onto your wall.

It is in lovely condition with no issues. It is a much sought-after work by her - and listed here at a very fair price. You wont be disappointed with it.

The price to send to you in the UK with Royal Mail will be £10 for Next Day Special Delivery postage - so that it is fully insured in transit to you and tracked and recorded service. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
