This is a lovely and quirky engraving of the train lines coming out of Waverley Station in Edinburgh.
It was a print that we acquired many years ago - when they used to have exhibitions and sales of artworks by local artists at the Scotsman Steps in Edinburgh. This delightful etching still has its 1977 Scotsman Steps Label on the back of the frame.
It is quite a naive view of the train lines coming out of the Station - and with little trains running along them. The lines disappear into the tunnels that run under the National Gallery. In the distance, we can see the dome of the Bank of Scotland high up on the Mound. behind that, the silhouette of the castle - and farthest away is a simple silhouette of St Cuthbert's Church.
I always found something quite charming about this work - and it has hung on my own wall at home for many years. It is a pencil signed etching and aquatint. It comes from a very small edition of only 12 impressions - and it is dated 1977. The artist's signature seems to read: Jeremy Baxter.
There is a nice crisp platemark and the work is in excellent condition.
