This is a sweet little vintage German figurine. He would have originally had a little label on the base - which probably read Dresden. Only the remnants of the sticker now remain.
He is certainly a top-quality model - and is finely modelled. The figurine takes the form of a little sailor in his traditional blue and white sailor uniform. He sits on top of a coiled rope on the quayside. He is waiting to board his ship and idles his time by singing an old sea shanty. He raised his knee in a relaxed pose - and is in the process of playing his squeeze box or concertina. His mouth is open as he sings along. The modelling is very detailed as you can see from all of my photographs.
His cap has the name of his ship "CHUSAN". This would relate to the P&O Chusan ocean liner operating in the 1950s and 1960s. The ship brought new standards of shipboard luxury to India and the Far East. For most of her working life, she carried passengers between London, Bombay, and Japan, but from 1963 also operated to Sydney in Australia.
These figurines would have been produced as a high-quality souvenir of your journey on the high seas. Each model would have had the name of the ship on his hat.
The figure is in perfect condition. He measures 6 1/2 inches in height.
