This is such a lovely vintage mid-century tutti-frutti millefiori vase in the shape of an urn with twin handles.
It is a lovely larger one - at nearly 10 inches in height.
It is made of a selection of wonderful little rainbow-coloured glass canes and dates to the 1940s / 1950s, perhaps a bit earlier!
It is a fine piece of Italian Art Glass and was made by Fratelli Toso. It is made of lots of fused individual millefiori canes. These are opaque and have an attractive and tactile satin finish. The vase is made of a really fine collection of canes - and you can see the exceptional craftsmanship in this piece.
The colours here are very restrained and consist of large fused canes of aubergine purple, Royal blue, grey and white. I have taken lots of images to show how a roll of canes was fused together and stretched when the gather was being hand-blown. There is a little smooth dimple section on the base where the vase had been attached to the pontil rod. The glass is not shiny - but has a subtle satin finish - as you find on good Fratelli Toso glass wares.
My lovely murine vase is bottle-shaped with a finely shaped trumpet neck. It has a pair of applied glass handles.
The vase is in good vintage condition. There seems to be a little internal stress fracture to one handle where the glass was pulled to form the handle and this would have occurred when the glass was being stretched and then cooled. I have taken lots of photographs of this area for your attention. You can only really see the fracture in the glass on the one handle on close up inspection - it looks just fine on display.
The issue with the handle is reflected in my asking price for this large vase - which is certainly a fair one for one this size.
You will be very pleased with it and it will be a fine addition to your collection of Italian Art Glass. It is of course - a unique piece.
Dimensions: Height is 9 3/4 inches and the foot is 2 3/4 inches. The rim at the top is just under 2 inches in diameter.
