This is a hard-to-find piece of vintage Polish Glass. It has a brutalist design with raised geometric shapes all around the main body of the glass. It is moulded glass - with a little evidence of mould seams on each side.
These 1970s pieces of optical Polish pressed glass are now hot collectables and this is reflected in my asking price. They are not so often found for sale in the UK.
Vases designed by Jan Sylwester Drost for the Zabkowice Household glassworks in the 1960s are in the collection of the National Museum Wroclaw in Poland.
Drost was born on 29 December 1934 (he is still alive! ). He studied at the Ceramics and Glass Faculty of Ceramics and Glass Faulty at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Wrocław in 1958.
From 1960, he worked for 40 years as a designer, design manager and organiser of the design centre of the Zabowice Glassworks. In 1972, he was awarded a scholarship from the Swedish government and he studied Scandinavian design at Swedish glassworks and ceramics plants. These included the Faculty of Industrial Design in Stockholm, as well as the one in Malmo, and at the Glass Institute in Vaxjo, Sweden.
Drost has had three solo exhibitions and has been part of over 50 collective exhibitions in Poland.
My stunning Polish glass vase is a stylish pewter colour - reminiscent of the pewter colour for pieces made around the same time at Whitefriars.
It is 9 1/2 inches in height (24.5 cm). The diameter at the top is 4 3/4 inches (12 cm). It is a bit of a stonker - coming in at 1.7 kg unpacked.
My vase is in lovely condition with no chips or cracks.
Due to its size and weight - I will have to send to you with Parcelforce Recorded Post. This will cost £10 and be applied to your order at the checkout.
