This is a very stylish piece of vintage Scottish jewellery. It is made by Ceard as annotated on the reverse. The design is called GLAMIS and features an image of Glamis Castle.
This is a much rarer design and one that you don't find so often. The rarity of this design is reflected in my asking price.
Glamis Castle is found near the village of Glamis in Angus. It has been the home of the Lyon family since the 14th century. Glamis was the childhood home of the Queen's mother, wife of King George VI. Princess Margaret was born here.
The necklace takes the form of a lozenge with an openwork design featuring the facade of the castle. It has great detail to the design.
It is made of matt finished pewter and is in very good vintage condition.
It is being sold all nice and clean, ready to wear.
Dimensions: The main pendant section is 5.5 cm x 3.8 cm at the widest - the length of the chain is 68 cm (27 inches) so a nice long length. It goes over your head without needing to use the ring fastening to open and shut it. The chain is NOT silver but a white metal one.
There is a large loop on the back to thread the chain through - so it is very easy to replace the chain if you wish to.
Ceard is a Gaelic word, meaning maker or craftsperson. The Ceard Company dates to the 1970s and was a collective of Scottish jewellers who made fine pewter items. The company's lead designer was John Forsyth. Their pieces of pewter jewellery are inspired by Scottish places and wildlife but are made in a modernist style.
