This is a very fine vintage hallmarked silver Scottish penannular brooch or clock pin.

It has a hallmark on the reverse - assayed in Glasgow in 1952 (letter D). It also has the maker's letters RA (for Robert Allison). As a mark of quality - even the tip of the pin has been hallmarked.

The brooch is beautifully made by the celebrated Scottish silversmith, Robert Allison. It looks back to earlier Alexander Ritchie designs of the 1930s for inspiration.  An identical Allison brooch features on the online site dedicated to the work of Ritchie. This brooch was first cast by Allison in the early 1940s - and this later casting comes from these 30s molds.

The brooch measures: The length of the pin is 6 cm. The width of the brooch is 4.5cm.

It is in excellent vintage condition and has been polished to shine before sending to you.

It will be sent to you in a simple black gift box. UK Postage with the Royal Mail Recorded is £4.95 and this will be applied to your order at the checkout.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF PENANNULAR BROOCH / CLOAK PIN:

Open the cloak pin so that the pin is pointing in the opposite direction to the hole in the ring.
Stick the pin through the cloth and then back out again so that the pin is held in place by the cloth.
Close the cloak pin all the way so that the end of the pin passes through the ring.
Turn the ring through 90 degrees.
