It is rare to find works by the American silversmith Leonore Doskow (1911 - 2008) in this country.

Leonore Doskow turned a hobby into a career during the Great Depression, a sugar bowl she made was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1940.

Her business was based in New York - and eventually grew to employ 75 staff during its peak, mostly producing silver novelties and silver-containing monograms (such as appears in her distinctive lettering on the base of my flagpole).

She was featured in a Silver Magazine article in 1973.

This is a very rare piece by Doskow - it is unmarked with her name and has no sterling mark - but it is most undoubted by her as the distinctive lettering on the base of the flagpole is typical of her style.

My flag pole is for display on an office desk - and is exquisitely made.

The domed stand at the bottom has the monogram CHB - and this is weighted - it has its original green baize base (to stop the metal scratching your furniture) - so I did not wish to remove it to check if the maker's marks were on the base. The flag is silk and printed - original to the silver stand. It is in good vintage condition.

Searching online I have only been able to find one more of these.

This one is 10 inches in height. The base has a diameter of 1 1/2 inches.

A nice and more unusual novelty desktop item by Leonore Doskow - and it is listed at a fair price.
