This is a nice antique black lacquer papier mache snuff box.
It is early 19th century in origin and is in excellent antique condition.
The box is oblong in shape and has a lovely hand-painted lid.
The painting shows a lady wearing a fancy Regional costume. Her outfit looks European - but I am not sure what country it originates from. The portrait of the lady is painted in more muted colours.
CONDITION: There is a little craquelure to the paint, noticeable on close-up inspection. This is commensurate with the age of the box. There is a little loss of pigment to the bridge of the Lady's nose - I have photographed this area in close-up. Please look carefully at my images to assess the condition of the image - the box is nearly 200 years old so in pretty good condition for its age. The lid of the snuff box is hinged and the concealed hinges are in good condition with no issues. The box closes nicely and is a tight fit. The black lacquer on the box is also in good condition with no scratches or losses. The papier mache is generally without any nasty chips or cracks. There is a little loss to the underside to the top corner on the lid, again as photographed. All this is taken into account with my pricing.
