This is a beautiful vintage etching which is dated 1959 in pencil in the bottom right hand corner.
The print is also signed, rather indistinctly for the surname, but with the forename of Alice quite clear in form.
There is also an edition number stating that this is No. 19 out of a limited edition of only 150 impressions.
I cannot find another one listed - so it is probably now a rare survivor from the late 1950s.
The image is a very stylised one - and features an exotic image of an Oriental Lady, déshabillé.
The image is very much in the style of Modigliani - with the dark slits for eyes and more elongated forms of the body. The light flesh of the body is set against a dark background.
The print has taken a long time to complete with all the velvety drypoint lines and dashes being constantly worked up to create sooty dark tones.
The etching is beautifully presented with a new fresh window mount and a simple black frame as shown in my photographs.
There are no damages or condition issues with the print itself.
The image size is 32.5 x 22.5 cm and the frame size is 52 x 39 cm
A very stunning image - and a fabulous piece of original 1950s mid-century art.
Given the difficulty in deciphering the whole signature of the artist - I am pricing this fine artwork on aesthetic qualities etc. It is a fair price of this super etching.
