This is a really beautiful example of a Glomesh evening bag or purse. You would have to look hard to find one better! It is a stunning and perfect bag for a wedding, Ladies' Day at the races, or another special celebration.
It is a lovely large example and it would hold lots of items for your special night out. You will defo get all your make-up, coin purse, and the largest of mobile phones all in here. The gold-tone snake chain forming the handle is nice and thick so it will not break easily.
The length from the top of the clasp to the bottom of the fringing is 7 1/2 inches. The main body section is 8 3/4 inches along the bottom and from the bag frame to the top of the fringing it is just over 5 inches. The chain handles have a drop of 6 1/2 inches.
The bag is made of a chain link or glomesh material. It is in perfect condition with no losses, staining or damage of any kind. Indeed, the bag seems to have been stored away for many years and never once used.
I love the zig-zag fringing on the base - it shoogles about and catches the light. Glomesh bags do not usually have this shape of decorative borders - so this is also special.
The bag opens and closes with the clasp on the center of the metal frame at the top. The bag opens and closes firmly. There are no losses to the mesh at the corners of the bag frame (you often find damage to this area on vintage bags). The clasp is adorable and takes the form of a fan or shell inset with little diamante (a sign of high quality).
The bag is lined with a deep rose pink satin. It is spotless (as new) not a mark on it and as clean as a whistle. There is a little pocket inside where you could keep a wee mirror or similar item.
A very lovely vintage gold mesh evening bag. This is reflected in my asking price. It has no maker's mark on it - and I am presuming that it might be West German in origin - as they seem to favour the addition of the zig-zag edging at the bottom of their bags.
