This is a rare vintage biscuit tin for the Scottish biscuit company MacFarlane Lang & Co, Glasgow.
It must date from before 1967 when they amalgamated with United Biscuits.
They are best known for their Rich Tea, Gypsy Cream and Cream cracker biscuits.
Today the company no longer exists and previous buildings belonging to the company have now been demolished.
So strange that it is these old tins that survive to remind us of the great Scottish tradition in baking and retailing biscuits.
This tin is octagonal in shape - and has a very attractive image on the lid of showjumping. Other horsey pursuits are featured around the side - such as polo players, steeplechasing, trotting etc.
The tin is in just such excellent condition - and has a hinged lid to the back.
It measures 5 ½ inches x 3 ¼ inches.
It remains nice and shiny inside - with no rust or hardly any oxidization.
The base is shiny gold and with the name of the manufacturer printed on the base.
My price is a very fair one for such an attractive old tin - and a rare item documenting the history of this great Glasgow manufacturing company.
