This is a fabulous and large piece of art pottery by the ceramic maestro, Gabriele Koch.
Gabriele Koch was born in Lӧrrach, South Germany in 1948. After studying at Heidelberg University (1967–73), she moved to London where she undertook her training in ceramics at Goldsmith’s College (1979–81).
She currently lives and works in London.
She has an international reputation for making hand-formed spheres, amphoras, and bowls. They are carefully burnished and given a special character by the decorative effects brought about by smoke in a sawdust kiln. The smoke has an ethereal pattern - and this is carefully controlled by Koch.
This is a large globular, and instantly recognizable, pot by Koch. It is a very fine sculptural vessel is hand built with a fine polished and subtly coloured tactile surface.
A nice large size being 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) in height.
It is in excellent condition with no damages.
This pot was exhibited at the 8th Annual Exhibition of Scottish Artists - December 1997. The receipt for purchase is still with the pot.
Koch's work is in some prestigious public collections - such as the Victoria and Albert. Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Ashmolean, and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
