This is a fine piece of vintage Danish stoneware pottery.
It is a lovely oval shallow bowl - with an abstract pattern like you might find on an African tribal shield.
It was made at Bornholm in Denmark by Michael Andersen and Sons. The tribal design is a rarer one - and I have been unable to find another like this - it might have been made on stylistic grounds by Marianne Starck as part of her tribal range of ceramics. With the signature being in-filled on the back, it is difficult to confirm this with complete certainty.
All the decoration is unique - and has been hand-painted.
It has an incised mark on the bottom for Michael Andersen (three herrings in a shield), impressed Denmark, and numbers (rather illegible as filled in with the glaze) as photographed.
The bowl is just over 6 1/2 inches wide and 11 inches long.
It is in excellent vintage condition.
