This is another rare little collectable perfume bottle and novelty bakelite type case. The fragrance is called Mischief and it was made by Savilles. It dates to 1935.
The top hat is an early plastic (black urea formaldehyde). The little miniature perfume bottle sits in the base section of the top hat box - and the main body of the top hat fits over the base, completely concealing the bottle within.
The is one of these novelty perfume bottles in the V&A collection - I must say, that I think that this one is better. This one has its original card box for the hat - just as you might find with a real topper. The box has a cute little label on it that reads: "The Latest Thing in Hats". The V&A example does not have this box.
'Mischief' perfume was available from 1935. It was also packaged with a white/cream top hat cover.
This is probably more of an item for the specialist collector of vintage perfume bottles or early plastic novelties. Again, I have never seen another with original cardboard retail box and with the bottle inside. There is a little uplifting of a fine paper trim on the top of the card box (as photographed). This can be easily repaired.
