This is a great display or storage item for an Edinburgh shop or house.
It is a large display tin which would have been used in the prestigious chocolate shop in Edinburgh.
This is one of two that I have - both look fabulous on display. This one is in better condition. It is no dents, dings or rusting. Just a little loss to the peppermint green enamel paintwork on the base, as photographed. There is a lift off tight domed lid - and at the front (near the base) are two little metal runners which would have held the label describing the contents of the tin.
Dimensions: 9 1/2 inches in height and with a diameter of 8 inches.
My other one has a long scratch to the back of the the tin (and is has a reduced price) but together on a shelf they look just amazing. Great items for lovers of quality chocolate - or retail history in Edinburgh.
HISTORY: Plaisir du Chocolat was founded in 2000. It opened an upmarket and very well stocked tea shop, pâtisserie and chocolaterie in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile at 251-253 Canongate. It employed over 20 staff and initially made made its chocolates in the basement of its Canongate premises. In 2005, Plasir du Chocolate opened a factory in the Scottish Borders. It also opened its first concession, in the capital's Harvey Nichols department store, and promised it was set to double turnover to £1m with a series of franchises and overseas ventures. However, these ambitious plans did not come to fruition. The proposals to open more franchises in Qatar, New York and Japan did not happen, and the company went into liquidation in 2007.
These tins are rare survivors from the Royal Mile shop and would have been on display and probably held chocolates or loose tea for sale in the shop. The peppermint green colour with gold or silver lettering was the favoured shade for all packaging and chocolate boxes for the products.
A single tin will be sent to you with Royal Mail Medium Size Parcel. This will be applied to your order at the checkout. Two tins will have capped postage at just over £10.
