I love this collectable 60s toffee tin. It shows an image of the famous North American natural landmark, The Niagara Falls - and the city of Niagara in the distance. If you look carefully - you can see the iconic tourist boat "The Maid of the Mist" travelling near to the falls in the images.
The image shows the Canadian Side of the Falls with the Seagram Town in the foreground.
It dates to about the early 1960s.
It is a toffee tin - and it was made by Riley's of Halifax - as annotated on the sides of the tin - and also on a rubbed star shaped sticker on the life - at the bottom left hand corner. It is a strange image for a British manufacturer to produce - and might relate to the popularity of the 1953 film, "Niagara" starring Marilyn Monroe. The image is lithographically printed and remains nice and fresh.
The construction of the Seagram Tower (shown in the centre of the image) began in 1961 and was complete in 1962. It overlooks the Horseshoe Falls in the area now know as the Fallsview Tourist District.
Dimensions: The tin is oblong in shape and measures 5 1/2 x 4 inches. It is 1 1/4 inches in height.

The tin is in pretty good condition for its age - there are no scratches to the image - and no nasty dents. The sides give manufacture details and is a nice bright blue colour. The lid is not hinged - but was designed to lift off - the interior is shiny silver tin - with areas of darker oxisidation to the metal.
