This is a rare whisky jug which would have originally have sat on the counter top in a pub or country hostelry. It would have contained water so that you could add a few drops if required to your glass of the finest Scotch Whisky.
These earlier Shelley examples are rare and highly sought after. As you can see, it is excellent condition with no chips, cracks or damages.
Shelley Pottery made this fine example to advertised and promote White Horse Whisky. It has the Shelley mark on the base.
On one side is a decorative cartouche showing a stagecoach travelling through the countryside - so this jug would just have looked great on the counter top of a coaching inn or country pub.
The other side has the White Horse Logo and Trademark. There is a scene of country pursuits on the rest of the decoration appearing behind the two cartouches. There is a man out shooting and hounds ran as a pack through the fields.
The just is a lovely shape and nice and fresh. It and dates to the early 20th Century.
