This is a very rare and early advertising tin - probably for display in a shop.
It is Edwardian in date; probably around 1910.
It advertises sweets - to be more specific: College-Boy Assortment.
The sweets were amde by W.M. Lievens & Co. Ltd. / College PURE SWEET WORK'S / Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
Rare tin, but with some condition issues, but displays well.
Would make a great item for window display in an old fashioned sweetie shop - or on display in a vintage kitchen.
I love the stylised Art Nouveau flowers on the lid and running around the outer edge of the tin. I slso love the little advertising logo of the College Boy - shown in an Art Nouveau cartouche to the top - he has chubby cheeks and wears a shiny top hat.
My asking price reflects this one's early date and rarity.
Condition - red colour fairly vibrant. Some minor rubbing to the decoration. Gilding to areas still nice and shiny (especially around the sides) - with again little areas of rubbing - but more of the more fragile gold colouring is still present.
A few minor dings to the lid - but nothing disfiguring. Relatively clean inside. Although the tin has a patina of age - the tin has been carefully cleaned by me - and is not dirty or grubby.
Tin measures: 11 3/4 inches in length; and is 8 inches wide (at widest) and with a height of 3 1/2 inches.
Fair price for this early advertising item.
UK Postage will be Royal Mail Recorded (Medium Parcel).
