This is a very fine vintage snakeskin bag - it is African in origin and dates to the 1950s.
Paul Carl Zimmerman was the founder of the company. It was first established in 1929. This is a top-quality bag - and it was made by Zimmerman Ltd - who were leading taxidermists in Nairobi. The company was the second-largest taxidermy company in the World until it closed in 1977.
Dimensions: The width of the bag is 11 inches. From the handle to the bottom of the bag is 15 inches The height of the main body of the bag is 7 inches. The depth of the bag is 3 1/2 inches.
It is in good vintage condition - all the stitching is intact - and there are no splits - the sides and under the flap are made of smooth black leather. Inside - is the maker's name and details printed in gold.
The gold-tone clasp is on the front and you twist it to open the bag. . The handbag is like a saddlebag and you lift up the flap to get inside - there are sections inside and some pockets. The gold-coloured metal swivel clasp is in excellent condition with no loss to the plating on it.
It is certainly a top-quality vintage bag - made in Kenya in the mid-century. A nice grain to the python snakeskin - which is still clean and shiny. It is nice and clean - with no grubbiness and no dirty interiors - you will certainly be pleased with it.
The bag is shown in my images as a handbag - but it does have a wee strap that can be adjusted and extended a little so that the bag can go over your shoulder. Fair price for this special vintage accessory.
