Kjell Engman was born in 1946. He has designed many classics for the Kosta Boda glassworks in Sweden. He has worked at Kosta Boda since 1978. This piece comes from the Kosta Boda Atelier collection.
This collection features unique, high-quality glass sculptures etc. The "Atelier" designation signifies that the pieces are handcrafts, signed by the artist and are often numbered, making them more distinct from mass-produced items. My one is fully signed and numbered on the sliced section on the base.
This vase comes from my personal collection. I bought it from the Kosta Boda concession which was in the prestigious Jenners Store on Princes Street, Edinburgh. I have owned it for well over 20 years - so it is in exceptional condition as has always been on display in my house These Engman glass sculptures hardly ever come up for sale often these days - and this is reflected in my asking price.
The glass sculpture is called "Tarning" and comes from a small limited edition of 500 ever produced. Each one is individual with difference colours and patterns on the glass. It takes the form of a large solid glass die (dice) - the pips on each side of the die are raised. In exterior of the die is a mottled blue colour and it is clean inside with a little green colours circular inclusion.
Dimensions: The glass is 3 1/2 inches square.
Signed on the base, as photographed. It is inscribed as being number 13 / 500.
