This is one of a small and very rare set of early 19th-century watercolour costume studies by the Maltese artist, Vincenzo Feneck. They are all on offer in my Iconic Edinburgh Online Store -
Feneck was born in Malta, and his delicate watercolour studies of national or local costumes are keenly sought after by collectors.
These watercolours are in his customary small scale - they have never been framed for display and consequently, all the watercolour details remain bright and fresh on each design.
This costume study features a Spanish Lady - she is shown wearing a long black dress and veil.
Again, painted in watercolour with slight traces of black chalk under-drawing on wove paper
Sheet Size: 18.5 x 15 cm; Signed lower left: V. Feneck
Inscribed lower right “No. 2” and below the image “Signora Spagnola”
CONDITION: Generally fine condition, a few light areas of spotting on the sheet, mostly confined to the bottom edge and the right-hand side – but not affecting the image. This is reflected in my asking price - the drawing will still look just fine if given a nice new window mount and frame.
These are of museum collection quality - and other similar costume studies are in the collection of the Met in New York.
These are genuine watercolour studies by Feneck - and NOT later copies or reproductions. They are sold as original artworks.
