This is a most iconic image of Newlyn Harbour in Cornwall.

It is so beautifully depicted by the maritime artist Rowland Langmaid and is pencil signed below.

It also has the Academy of Art Ltd, Birmingham blindstamp reading: ACADEMY PROOF in the bottom left hand corner - and original label on the back of the frame - as photographed.

It has a pronounced platemark along the edges and at the corners.

The image shows the harbour and lighthouse to the right-hand side of the etching - with all the little Cornish fishing boats coming in at the end of the day with their catch. Little seagulls hover above the boats hoping for an easy meal.

In the distance, you can see St Michel's Mount the tide is high and the famous causeway has been covered with water transforming the Mount into an island.

This is a highly collectable drypoint etching by Langmaid and is in excellent condition.

Nice and clean with no foxing or spotting to the image - nice crisp and dark drypoint lines so probably a nice early impression taken from the etching plate. Any white flashes appearing in my photographs have been caused by reflections as I have had to take the images through the glass of the frame.

The etching measures 16 x 29.8 cm. The frame measures 42 x 54 cm.

It comes with its vintage decorative gold coloured frame. It is beautifully presented.

Please note: The price quoted here is from the artwork only.

The frame comes free with this artwork. Any damage in transit to the frame / mount / picture glass will not be subject to any refunds, discounts or re-framing costs from us.

Langmaid was born into a naval family in Vancouver and he studied under William Lionel Wyllie.

The National Maritime Museum has seventeen of Langmaid's wartime paintings although he is perhaps better known for his etchings which include naval, yachting and other maritime subjects.

This view of the harbour at Newlyn is a more unusual subject for him - and is listed at a fair price for a work by this fine and sought after artist.
