This is a lovely large original screenprint by the Scottish artist, George Donald.
George Donald was born in India in 1943. His family moved to northeast Scotland when he was young, and the contrast between the nostalgic vision of the land of his birth and the harsh climate of his upbringing has profoundly influenced his work. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University.
He has worked as lecturer in drawing, painting and printmaking at Edinburgh College of Art and Director of the Centre for Continuing Studies, which he co-founded in 1999.
During his career he has travelled extensively to Japan, Korea, China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. His artwork reflects his profound interest in Asian cultures. He is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. He is currently adjunct professor to the art department of the University of Central Florida, Orlando, and Honorary Professor at the Maktoum Institute, Dundee.
His awards include the Sir William Gillis Bequest in 2003 and the Scottish Arts Club award in 2006. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Scotland.
This fine screenprint was made after a visit to Japan and it is signed in pencil along the lower edge of the image - and also with the title: Night Dancer.
In the bottom right-hand corner it has a blindstamp for the Edinburgh Printmakers and the edition number 23 out of a limited edition of only 50 impressions. This one comes from the earlier edition made in 1997.
It is a large size and certainly a statement piece.
The image size is 56 x 72 cm. The frame is 84 x 99 cm.
This print is framed with a very good quality modern frame. The frame would look good in any interior - it is a substantial white-washed wooden frame and all ready to just hang on your wall.
It is listed at a very fair price - and impressions of this screenprint are currently being retailed unframed at the Edinburgh Printmakers for £450 (unframed) - so this is a very fair price for this highly decorative work.
Another impression of this screenprint is in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland. So this could be considered a work of museum-quality.
It is in excellent condition with no issues.
