This is a rare and very attractive original theatre programme for the Jerome Kern musical "Sunny", which opened on October 7th 1926 and ran for over 350 performances.

It had a musical score by Jerome Kern and a libretto by Oscar Hammerstein II and Otto Harbach. The plot involves Sunny, the star of a circus act, who falls for a rich playboy but comes in conflict with his snooty family. It was Kern's first collaboration with Hammerstein.

The programme was issued for the 1926 season at the London Hippodrome - and features the celebrated Scottish actor, Jack Buchanan (his photograph is inside) and also featured Binnie Hale - one of the most successful musical theatre stars in London in the 1920s and 1930s.

Buchanan was also the choreographer, with direction by Charles Mast.

The cover is certainly a most attractive one with a vivacious flapper shown dancing with a big abstract sun behind her. This fabulous Art Deco design by "Chesney" would look fabulous framed for display.

The programme measures just over 21 x 14 cm.

It has 20 pages - and features a selection of advertisements, as photographed.

Given this rather fragile programme is now over 90 years old - it is in very good condition. The staples are secure - just a wee issue with the edge on the back cover showing the lingerie advert, which I have photographed for you. A wee bit of scuffing to the spine - but generally fine.

A fair price for this specialist piece of theatre memorabilia.
