On offer is a small set of three different guide books printed for visitors to the exhibition in 1951. Classic designs - with each cover printed in a difference colour featuring the iconic design by Abram Games (1914-1996) incorporating his Festival of Britain Emblem, the Festival Star.
On offer is the more general exhibition for the South Bank Exhibition (with the mustard-coloured cover). It is the thickest volume in the set. Consisting of 95 numbered pages - and some random un-numbered ones (64 pages) containing full-page mid-century colour adverts. These could be framed for display. It is generally in good condition with no page losses, no scribbles or inscriptions, clean interior pages. The spine is intact and stapled as printed - there is some marks to the cover - but very minor in nature - and as photographed. Given that this catalogue is not over 70 years old - it is in good vintage condition. Given its fine condition, this one is priced here at £15.
The other two are harder to find guides:
The one with the blue cover is for the 1951 Exhibition at Science at South Kensington. It has 56 pages and again a small selection of full-page colour adverts. It is in very good vintage condition with no page losses, scribbles or inscriptions. The cover is lovely and clean with no damages. A very fine example and one for the more specialist collector. I am listing this one at £40 to take into account its rarity.
The other rarer guide is the one for the Exhibition of Architecture held at Poplar.
The guidebook for the 1951 Exhibition of Architecture held at Lansbury in Poplar, South London as part of the Festival of Britain. The guide gives information on the buildings etc that were constructed at Lansbury. It also deals with current views on architecture and town planning generally. A very interesting guide to architectural design in 1951. The guide itself is 52 pages plus 48 pages of adverts for companies associated with the exhibition. Again, it is in good vintage condition - with a nice clean cover with no damages and all pages inside which are all clean and intact. Again, taking into account its rarity and condition - this is coming in at £40
Total for all three are: £95
