This is a lovely piece of unique Poole Delphis Pottery.
The Delphis range was heavily influenced by modern design and was introduced by the manager of Poole's 'making department' potter Guy Sydenham in conjunction with company designer, Robert Jefferson.
Delphis wares are often bright and jazzy in colour and design.
Each design is made by using a black wax resist with freely drawn lines - and then filled with vibrantly coloured glazes.
The decoration on this attractive bowl has a bright ochre yellow background. The decoration is made of thick abstract shapes with rounded ends and infilled with turquoise blue and dark blues glazes. The maker's mark on the bottom is photographed. The design looks like one that might have been produced by Carol Cutler - but it is not by her.
It is certainly a fine piece of vintage Poole Pottery. The bowl has a sloping sides and if turned upside down it looks a little like a "coolie" hat.
It was designed in the 1960s and takes the form of a shallow bowl which measures just over 5 inches in diameter. The height is 1 1/2 inches.
It is certainly a beautifully hand-painted piece and a unique design with no condition issues. The sheer painterly quality of this beautiful piece of Poole is reflected in my asking price for this superb wee bowl.
Please note that any white lines on the dish are only reflections from the glossy glaze and are not on the actual item.
