This is a job lot of Portmeirion Zodiac range large mugs. They date to the 1970s.
They are all in the typical Portmeirion black egg-shell glaze - printed with each design in a gold colour.
There are thirteen items in total. The Zodiac range is not complete - as Aries is missing and there are two Sagitarrius.
The cups are all in good condition with a variety of Portmeirion backstamps on the base.
The group on offer here consists of the following: Pisces, Sagitarrius x 2, Gemini, Leo, Cancer, Scorpio, Aquarius, Aires (NO), Capricorn, Libra and Taurus. There is also one not from the Zodiac series, but with the design printed on the same shape style: a Silver Jubilee one (1977). It features the Royal Crest.
These mugs are large and would hold a half pint of liquid. I have taken a good selection of images for you to see them as a group.
I am listing these here at a bargain price of £5 each mug. So that comes in at £65. Postage will have to be due to the weight with Parcelforce24. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
HISTORY: Susan Williams-Ellis devised the idea of a set of twelve Zodiac mugs and appointed John Cuffley to produce the designs. He produced 12 separate signs - one for each sign of the Zodiac. Each star sign was accompanied by a detailed astrological background written in mock 'Old English'. The text was originally placed within a stylised parchment border, which was later dropped to enable the text to be made larger. The Zodiac patterns were also produced on plates, dishes, bottles and airtight jars for a limited time.
