This is a delightful bone china or porcelain model of a puffin bird. These little hollow figures are made by Royal Crown Derby. They have little gold or silver metal stoppers in the base, as photographed.
Royal Crown Derby paperweights were first launched quite recently in 1981 at Chatsworth House. They feature a wide ranging series of hand decorated bone china animals and figures. The decoration often features rich colours and details picked out in 22 ct gold. Each model is marked in rust colour ink on the base and often feature a gold or silver stopper. The paperweights first started with a selection of only six animals (an owl, duck, quail, penguin, wren, and rabbit). The range was met with such success that the line was rapidly expanded and now consists of over 500 different subjects.
My puffin is fully marked on the base - with the date letter LX - for the year 1997 - so it is now nearly 30 years old.
The puffin is in excellent condition - and although it has a silver stopper signifying it might have a little often imperceivable blemish. I cannot see any faults with this model. The quality control on these Crown Derby figurines is always at the highest level. I am pricing my puffin lower price to reflect the wee fellow does not have the gold stopper. He also does not have his original box - but that should not be so much of an issue - as you will want this little fellow out on display at home.
Mr Puffin is without damages or any condition issues. I have taken lots of images for your inspection.
He is a larger model being 4 3/4 inches (12 cm) in height.
