This is a collectable piece of Victorian Pottery. It takes the form of a sleek, seated cat. It was made at the end of the 19th century at C.H. Brannam pottery in Devon.
It is an attractive model which sits and looks straight ahead. His head is slightly cocked to one side in a quizzical manner. It is made of the customary Brannam red clay and decorated with a thick blue glaze. This blue body colour is further embellished with patches of olive green, rust and chocolate brown painted decoration to the body, as photographed. The cat has a green tail and green tip to his nose. There is some slipware ridges on the back of the cat to suggest the texture of his fur. My Kitty Cat has clear yellow glass eyes - these are original to the model and not later additions. It is certainly a very nice example.
There is an impressed factory mark on the base - and an incised signature. The cat is in excellent condition with no restorations or damages. It is a nice large model coming in at 10 3/4 inches (28 cm) in height.
