I havent had one of these collectable vintage Hornsea Muramic Wall Plaques for quite some time now.
This one features a wooden backing plaque with an image of the French Emperor Napoleon on the front. The figure is made of sections of decorated and glazed clay sections and his uniform is embellished with orange, purple and red buttons.
I love the cute printed details on the disk representing Napoleon's face. The main body section is in matt terracotta ceramic shapes - and the bicorn hat and his rising boots are shiny black.
On the reverse is the original Hornsea Pottery Silver "Muramic" label.
This plaque was made in 1971 - 1972 and designed by John Clappison. They are so collectable as each is unique and made only for this short period. The designs were cut from hand-rolled clay sheets and then hand-decorated and embellished with colours. The glazes were then applied by screen printing and many little decorative discs and buttons applied.
It measures 20cm x 10cm and is about 1.2cm deep
It is in lovely vintage condition with no chips to the figure on the front - and the silver label is still on the reverse, perhaps a little crinkly - but all fine, as photographed. He sure looks good on display!
