This is a large oval serving platter in the attractive Persephone Pattern and made by Wedgwood.
The image was designed by the famous English artist and printmaker, Eric Ravilious (1903 - 1942).
The green colour variant is harder to find - and these pieces of tableware are now highly sought after.
Ravilious was originally commissioned to produce a range of designs for Wedgwood in the 1930s. Many of his original designs were only produced by Wedgwood in the early 1950s.
The platter measures 12 3/4 inches by 10 1/4 inches. Weight unpacked is 900 grams.
It is in good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or craquelure. There might be the very lightest of cutlery marks on the surface that you are only able to see in close-up inspection and turning the plate to bright sunlight -There is a little scuff mark to the edge as photographed. This is taken into consideration with my pricing.
The design is very typical of the artist's distinctive style - with a fine abstract pattern around the edges - and little abstract fish and cornucopia as the central motif.
The plates have all the expected Wedgwood marks on the base of each plate, as photographed.
