I have had these for many years and just decided to list them.
These are a wee set of dishes in the rare Safari Pattern designed by Roy Midwinter that I have collected over a long period of time as you just dont find them that often.
There are exampled in the Victorian and Albert Museum. They are catalogued online as: 'Earthenware with overglaze decoration in enamel, aerographed and printed with 'Safari', designed by Roy Midwinter, David Harper and Julie Midwinter, manufactured by Federated Potteries, England, ca. 1986".
Roy Midwinter left the Midwinter Pottery in 1981 and moved to Federated Potteries in Stoke on Trent. (Midwinter Pottery was owned by Wedgwood post 1970 and closed in 1987). While at Federated Potteries Roy designed in 1986 this striking pattern - which looks back to geometric patterns of Jessie Tait's Zambesi pattern of the 1950s.
These Safari designs are now quite rare and don't come up for sale very often. The ones that I have have some little scratches etc to some areas of the black stripes (only seen in a raking light) - so perhaps this pattern was not made in such great numbers due to this happening.
My lot on offer consists of the following 2 Larger Dinner Plates: £20 and one with condition issues £15. One side plate £15. The little milk jug of creamer £25 and two cups and saucers £25 each. This all totals up at £125.
Dimensions: Two Midwinter Safari Dinner Plates each 10 ½ inches diameter One plate has a little crazing to it and some light cutlery marks evident on the black glossy area. The £20 plate has a mark on the base, made in the glazing process, but it otherwise fine.
Safari Side Plate (only 1) Diameter is 7 ¾ inches, again with some very faint scratch marks to the black area.
Midwinter Safari Milk Jug Height is 2 ½ inches. Spout to Handle is 5 inches. There is one tiny scratch to a black stripe near the base, otherwise it is fine.
2 Plain Black Safari Cups Height is 2 ½ inches. Diameter is 3 ¼ inches. 2 Safari Saucers Diameter 6 inches. All in excellent condition.
