I love this vase .. and am contemplating keeping it as they dont come on the market very often.
It is one of Poole's Harlequin pattern freeform vases that dates to 1956 / 1957. The pattern is by Ruth Pavely. My price reflects the size, condition and rarity of this particular vase.
HISTORY: Lucien Myres was appointed director of Poole in the 1950s and looked to producing more fine art pottery after post-war design council restrictions were lifted in 1954. A new and modern look in ceramics was introduced and Alfred Read was hired as chief designer. He produced a range of freeform designs that were modern, organic and simple in style and which have come to typify 1950's design.
Poole Freeform was a new, more modern style, developed after WW2. Poole Freeform patterns were applied to a wide range of shapes, many of which were designed by Alfred Read and Guy Sydenham, two of Poole Pottery's most creative talents.
A nice large size: the height is 8 inches and width at the widest point is 7 inches. The rim has a diameter of 5 1/4 inches. The foot is 5 inches in diameter. It is 1.1 kg in weight.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks and no crazing to the glaze - as nice an example as you might care to see!
It will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked (Medium Parcel). This will be applied to your order at the checkout. The vase will also be fully insured against loss or damage in transit with our private insurer.
