These semi-porcelain utility canisters by Grimwades are highly collectable pieces of antique kitchenalia. They are called hooped canisters due to there distinctive raised hoops running around the body and the green letters on the side describing the contents. They date to the early 20th century.
The jars were designed for practical household use, storing common kitchen staples. A unique feature was the inclusion of advertising or branding printed on the underside of the lid. They were made in a variety of sizes ranging from 4 1/2 inches to the very largest one which is 10 1/2 inches.
This is one has the letters: SAGO on the side of the canister - and the details of manufacture under the lid, as photographed. It has a good bit of age to it and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or staining. This is all reflected in my asking price.
It is looks lovely when on display. It measures 5 1/2 inches in height – and has a diameter of 4 1/2 inches.
